Rail against the Bishop Sankey Hype
The best analysis anyone seems to be able to give is that he’s not Shonn Green. No one discusses if he’s talented or not or that he played in a conference that doesn’t know how to play defense at all. All the talking heads say is that “he’s the guy.” Well, judging by the week 2 pre-season game, he’s not. I know not to put too much stock in pre-season, but he didn’t play until Green tweaked his knee and then he put the ball on the ground. You can hate on Shonn Green all you want, but if he can plow 3 yards per carry, hang on to the ball and keep Locker from getting killed on a blitz, he’s going to be the guy at the start of the season. Yes, he’ll get hurt and Sankey may get his shot(even that is not clear yet though), but I’m not spending a 4th or in some cases a 3rd round pick on a guy who MAY get the job. That makes him a flyer at best, not a guy you want to use a first half draft pick on. This all reeks of the same scenario as Montee Ball last season. All of the analysts hyped him as the next coming of Terrell Davis and yet there was “old, broken down” Knowshon Moreno toting the rock for the first ¾ of the season.
